During football season fans from around the country gather at sport bars and barbecues to watch their favorite NFL or college team.  It’s safe to say the popularity of professional and college football has grown in recent years. Its popularity is mainly attributed to its violent and exciting nature.

Besides touchdowns, fans love seeing the big hits. The thrill of watching a linebacker brutally tackle an opposing player is one of the main reasons why fans watch the game.  That being said, the violent nature of NFL football is taking a big toll on current and former players.

Today players are bigger, faster, and stronger then ever before. In the NFL today there are over 500 players listed who weigh at least 300 pounds. Getting hit by players that size and weight will certainly increase the chance of injury, especially concussions. A study in 2001 reported that over 61% of former NFL players had concussions during their career. An example is former Dallas Cowboy star Troy Aikman who was forced to retire due to 10 concussions he received throughout his career.

Side effects from concussions and other head injuries include chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). A form of dementia that leads to memory loss and disrupts mental functioning.  The long term consequences of concussions is leading the NFL to look at how to deal with this growing epidemic. A great place to start is with the equipment that NFL players use.

The technology used by the NFL is having a hard time keeping up with the players. The players are hitting harder while the equipment designed to protect them is failing to keep up. The 21st annual New York Super Boat Grand Prix might be the biggest Superboat race ever.

2011 will mark the tenth anniversary for the tragic September 11th attacks that we all remember. The offshore powerboat association will be joining forces with Super Boat International for one event in 2011. The event will be held on September 10th on the Hudson River. What makes this particular race exciting is the fact that the event will start  at the Statue of Liberty. With the merger of the two series for this event, it has the potential to be one of the biggest events ever.

Baring any bad luck throughout 2011, the MitiGator powerboat will be at this event to honor the 2001 victims and families. Last year MitiGatorinc.com honored the victims with a special paint scheme on the MitiGator Ford Fusion that raced at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Make sure you check back later this week when we post the video showcasing the MitiGator's results from our paintball test

Well I was hoping I could post the video on here now showcasing the newest MitiGator test, but a problem with the paintball gun last week has kept us from being able to shoot the video. But make sure you check back later this week as we will be shooting the test this week.

The video/test will be myself getting shot on three different occasions with a paintball gun. The first test will be without any protection, so I will be getting shot on bare skin. This will give us a baseline to showcase what a direct impact will do on bare skin. The second shot will be while I am wearing a standard paintball vest that hasnt been equipped with MitiGator. And of course the third test will be a MitiGator equipped paintball vest. The MitiGator is designed to absorb and dissipate impacts and vibrations from the user. So for a paintball gun it will absorb the impact from the paintball and dissipate the energy created away from the user. This will help cut down on bruises and injuries that are associated with playing the sport.

The MitiGator offshore powerboat unfortunately didnt get to take to the rough waters at Atlantic City as the Coast Guard was forced to cancel the event

If you ask the driver of the MitiGator Powerboat, Warren Miller, he will tell you that he feels as if he has an advantage over the competition because of his MitiGator equipped seats. The MitiGator is designed to absorb the impacts and vibrations that come from the intense waves that racing on the ocean produces. Earlier this year at Ocean City Maryland the ocean was producing some bigger waves and the MitiGator powerboat ended up pulling off the victory in the rough waters.

However at Atlantic City, New Jersey this past weekend the ocean was extremely choppy. With waves climbing from 15-18 feet with swells over 20 feet. Warren and throttleman Al Colbertson were excited because they felt like they had a great chance to win the first powerboat race at Atlantic City in over 20 years. But when the Coast Guard saw how tall the waves were they had no choice but to cancel the event.

The good news is the MitiGator Powerboat is now ready for its next event on October 13-17th at Orange Beach Alabama. If you are going to be attending the event come down to the pits and check out the boat. And make sure you ask about the MitiGator cushioning system!
