John Gibson Runs Well, Has Tough Finish at Hickory for Team Mitigator

HICKORY, NC (April 22, 2013) - – After a strong run at the beginning of the race, John Gibson and his Gibson Motorsports team came home a disappointing 12th at the Catawba Valley 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway this past Saturday.

After having to replace the transmission in John’s #13 Mitigator Ford Fusion late Friday night before heading to Hickory, the Gibson Motorsports team was cautiously optimistic going into Saturday’s morning practice.

“We just want to thank Buzze Racing for renting us a transmission at the last minute like they did. Without it, we probably wouldn’t have been able to run this race. We look forward to seeing what we can do with it,” John said early Saturday morning.

The afternoon qualifying session left John and his Mitigator Ford Fusion starting the race in 8th place.

As soon as the green flag fell, John began making his way towards to the front of the field. A little over fifty laps into the race John was holding strong in the top five and by lap 70, he had climbed his way up to third.

The team took four tires, fuel, and made adjustments during the halfway break, and restarted 11th. John was happy with the adjustments and his MitiGator Ford Fusion was up to 6th by lap 185 when they were involved in an incident with Gus Dean on the backstretch.

“I was really happy with the MitiGator Ford Fusion after we made some midrace adjustments. We were moving through the field when we got turned. Although we didn’t finish where we wanted to, I feel really confident about this car and I look forward to racing it again,” John said. “I also just want to thank our sponsor, MitiGator. We love having them on board and appreciate their ongoing support.”

After the incident, Gibson Motorsports experienced battery issues and couldn’t get the car to re-fire. They finished in 12th place. The Gibson Motorsports team hopes to be back on the track at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA in June.

The Mitigator Ford passing for 2nd at the CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series Season Opener

This past Saturday marked the opening weekend for the 2013 X-1R Pro Cup Series. Excitement built over the offseason as it was announced that the series would be paying a huge $10,000 to the victor of each event. The MitiGator Ford Fusion and the Gibson Motorsports team were on hand after spending the majority of their evenings in the week preparing the car for the upcoming event.

When they arrived on Saturday it wasn’t long before the MitiGator Ford was already up into the top five in practice. The Gibson Motorsports crew and new crew chief Tony Lambert would turn a lap of 17.3 in practice that was good enough for fifth on the sheets.

After picking up almost a half a second in qualifying, the MitiGator Ford would start the event from the fourth position. However, It wouldn’t take long before Gibson made his way into third and was battling for 2nd.

At the mandatory half-way break, the Gibson Motorsports crew made some quick adjustments, and after the new redraw restarted the race from the fifth position. “It was just so extremely tough to pass tonight, that I knew that the redraw was going to hurt us a bit,” said driver John Gibson. The competition in the pro cup series is known for being one of the tightest in the country, and saturday was no different.

After battling a tight racecar in the 2nd half of the event, the MitiGator Ford Fusion was unable to advance through the field and crossed the finish line in the 6th position. Not a bad way to start out the 2013 season. Up next for the CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series is the 2nd event of the year at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway. The MitiGator Ford will be battling again for the $10,000 winner’s check on April 20th.

Familiar Surroundings With New Series For John Gibson and Mitigator

HICKORY, North Carolina (August 20, 2012) – - While John Gibson and the Gibson Motorsports team are still relatively new to the Pro All Star Series (PASS) tour, they will feel right at home this weekend when the green flag waives for Saturday night’s Over The Mountain 150 at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

And it might just be the grounds of Hickory Motor Speedway that the Statesville, North Carolina-based team needs to turn their luck around in their second-ever PASS event. Last month, the team made their debut at the legendary South Boston (Va.) Speedway but their promising night was cut short when the brakes failed which resulted in an unplanned meeting with the wall.

With South Boston in the rearview mirror, the team has bounced back nicely and is confident they will rebound and put their No. 13 Mitigator Ford Fusion in the hunt this weekend.

“We’re glad to be going to Hickory this weekend,” said 28-year old Gibson. “South Boston was a blow for sure, but we’re a small team where “give up” is not in our dictionary. I have a ton of laps at Hickory and I feel that should be a benefit to us this weekend. It’s going to be a competitive race, there’s no questioning that. We just need to go out there, do our best and look to bring home a good finish for MitiGator and everyone who supports Gibson Motorsports.”

Speaking of Mitigator, it’s because of their support in and outside the racecar that is allowing the former Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series star the opportunity to make his presence known.

“It was a hard hit at South Boston, but my seat was padded with MitiGator, so I was able to climb from the car without a scratch,” Gibson added. “MitiGator is the top of the line. On top of that, it’s because of their belief and support of our race team that we’re able to give the Pro All Star Series another try this weekend. Hopefully, we can stay on the lead lap and bring our Ford Fusion home with a nice top-10 finish.”

MitiGator is an engineered cushioning system designed to protect people from hi-speed, hi-impact assaults and to allow them to continue to perform their jobs or enjoy their leisure time.

With four starts at the 0.363-mile oval, Gibson knows what to expect on Saturday night.

“A lot of patience will be important for the race,” he said. “It’s a tough place to pass, but the track provides a lot of great racing. You have to be able to get your car to have a good drive off the corners in one and two and then be able to have it hug the bottom of the racetrack in turn four. We have a setup that we’ll start with and hopefully the changes we make will be the right ones.”

Practice for the Over The Mountain 150 kicks off on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. with qualifying to follow at 4:30 p.m. Racing kicks-off at 6:00 p.m. with the Pro All Star Series set to be the final feature of the night following the Super Limited Late Models contest.
